Thank you, outgoing Indigenous Advisory Council members
In January 2020, BMO became the first major Canadian financial institution to establish and formalize the role of an Indigenous Advisory Council (IAC) comprising Indigenous representatives from across Canada.
The IAC’s mandate is to provide guidance and feedback to BMO on the creation of new policies and practices that respond to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s Call to Action 92.
The IAC brings Indigenous perspectives, insights and wisdom to the three guiding pillars comprising BMO’s Indigenous Strategy: Education, Employment and Economic Empowerment.
Effective April 30, we say thank you to five founding IAC members:
- Chief Roy Whitney-Onespot
- Chief R. Donald Maracle
- Professor Claudette Commanda
- Sarah Leo
- K’ana Deborah Baker
Thank you all for your invaluable insights, guidance and contributions over the years. You have all made an impact within BMO and beyond, enriching our work, processes and understanding. We look forward to honouring your legacy as we continue our journey toward Reconciliation.
Chief Roy and Chief Maracle shared their reflections on their time with BMO in this capacity:
In July, we will welcome new members to the IAC. Learn more about BMO’s Indigenous Advisory Council.
