Sally’s Nuts: a mother/daughter duo turn a nutty passion into sweet success

Sally Schoch is a seasoned artist, painter, gardener, cook, mother and grandmother in Highland Park, IL. With all these creative outlets and passions, her daughter Kari Guhl still laughs at the fact that for the past few years they’ve been running a nut business together. What started as a holiday tradition of gifting friends and family with sweet and salty treats, “Sally’s Nuts” has now blossomed into a thriving business, thanks to Sally’s treasured recipes and Kari’s entrepreneurial spirit and support from the whole family.

Sally’s artwork has been celebrated for over 60 years, and now many of her pieces adorn the walls of the workspace where her decadent treats are made creating a seamless experience from art created on canvas to art that tantalizes the tastebuds.

The business got an extra boost during the holiday season by being featured in BMO’s annual Wrap the Good campaign, a program highlighting gifts from underrepresented businesses, particularly those owned by women.

Beyond being part of Wrap the Good, the business owners say banking with BMO has been a phenomenal experience and can see their business making real financial progress thanks to the support and opportunities from BMO.
