BMO employees donate $31 Million to Grow the Good in communities across North America
Each year, the incredible generosity of thousands of BMO employees across North America truly makes our annual Employee Giving Campaign industry leading. With over 88 per cent participation this year, BMO employees donated over $31 million to support their communities. Over the past five years, we’ve donated more than $130 million dollars to charities tackling the most pressing societal issues.
Through our campaign, employees focus their attention on the challenges that communities face, especially in today’s economic environment, which is pushing rent, food and living costs to new heights. We learn about the toll this is taking on the most vulnerable people in our communities and gain a better understanding of how stretched community agencies are. That’s why BMO employees give generously, because every donation – big or small – makes a difference.
This year, employees directed $13 million to our strategic partner, the United Way. Our partnership with United Way is decades long, and reflects our commitment to organizations that support critical services when our communities need it most – like the work with United Way Greater Toronto to bring inclusive local economic opportunities to a highly marginalized area of the city, recognized by the United Nations for its innovative approach.
“We’re so pleased to continue working with BMO and its employees who continue to be among United Way’s strongest champions. BMO’s industry-leading campaign ranks number one globally in employee giving and participation by United Way Worldwide. That means more impact, more donations, more opportunity to make a difference for our community, and now more than ever we celebrate this partnership.”

Additionally, this year hundreds of employees volunteered at United Way headquarters and agencies in 14 cities across North America. Together, they assembled more than 8,500 self-care kits, holiday hampers and grocery bags for their communities.
“BMO’s commitment to giving is guided by our Purpose, to Boldly Grow the Good in business and life, for our clients, colleagues and the communities we serve. This year Team BMO’s world-class campaign will help countless people at a time when they need it most and help us all make progress for a thriving economy, a sustainable future and an inclusive society.”

BMO’s growing partnership with United Way
BMO’s expansion in the U.S. this year presented a unique opportunity to extend our annual industry-leading Employee Giving Campaign to support communities across new locations. This included expanding our strategic partnership with United Way.
The partnership aligns with BMO’s $3 million donation to United Way Bay Area (UWBA) to fund the expansion of United Way Bay Area’s proven financial empowerment program, SparkPoint, in the Bay Area and beyond. SparkPoint centers have served as a one-stop resource site designed to support people with low or no incomes to access a full range of services that promote economic stability and nurture healthier communities.
Looking ahead to 2024, BMO employees remain united in their resolve to make a tangible and positive impact in their communities through volunteering, fundraising and donation activities.
