February 2, 2023 | Giving and sponsorships

Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital

On October 25, 2016 Mackenzie Health held a ground-breaking ceremony for the state-of-the-art 342-bed Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital. Today, it is Canada’s first smart hospital, featuring fully integrated systems and medical technology that share information to improve the patient experience and provide the best possible care by best-in-class specialists and healthcare professionals.

As Canada’s first bank, BMO has a long tradition of driving progress and growing our nation’s prosperity and the vitality of millions of fellow citizens and has supported Mackenzie Health (and its predecessor York Central Hospital), for the past 45 years.

Creating the exceptional

The 14,000-square-foot Learning Centre is the destination for large-scale conferences and seminars, attracting clinical staff from across the GTA and beyond, and is the home of BMO Financial Group’s Clinical Teaching Laboratory, a transformational gift which impacts everyone within the hospital walls.

“Our investment impacts virtually every doctor, nurse and health professional learning together where they work. Every family who walks through the doors at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital will benefit from improved care and outcomes.”

– Helen Seibel
Head, BMO Corporate Giving

The creation of the Teaching Laboratory positions the hospital as a hub of health information, skill development and a catalyst for connecting health experts across the country.

“The Learning Centre will go above and beyond the traditional scope of a community hospital by blending education and practice, so that our patients benefit from the latest knowledge and techniques and will inspire the confidence that comes from being cared for by a well-trained team committed to exceptional care.”

– Susan Kwolek
Executive Vice Presider, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Executive, Mackenzie Health

The innovative spaces at Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, including the BMO Financial Group’s Clinical Teaching Lab, will be the bedrock for further collaboration with peer hospitals in the Central Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), Ontario Telemedicine Network and the Canadian Council of Health Service Accreditation. And as the first new hospital built in York Region in decades, it’s a major step forward in the city’s evolution – one that’s bringing world-class health care to the region.

“Ultimately, we understand that building a hospital is about people. It’s about investing in the health and well-being of our citizens and ensuring we all have access to the very best services available.”

– Maurizio Bevilacqua
Mayor, City of Vaughan
