BMO launches a unique responsible investing fund with small and mid-sized businesses around the world
The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people are able to enjoy peace and prosperity. Each of the 17 Goals includes specific targets, along with indicators that are intended to help focus efforts, monitor progress and promote accountability. At BMO, the SDGs inform our sustainability priorities, and have inspired our work in areas such as sustainable finance.
We believe that as stewards of capital, BMO has a unique opportunity to create positive impact on a global scale. Using our levers as a financial institution, we can support companies that are doing good work. That’s why BMO Global Asset Management (BMO GAM) has launched the BMO SDG Engagement Global Equity Fund, which supports the achievement of the SDGs.
This unique fund will invest in a variety of small- and mid-sized companies from around the world, engaging with them to enhance long-term performance, reduce risk and encourage a commitment to broader environmental and social issues. Only companies that show tangible signs of improvement in achieving SDG targets will earn a place in the portfolio.
“We provide investors with the opportunity to ensure their money works for them, while also improving the world in which we live,” says Jamie Jenkins, Co-Head, Global Equities, BMO GAM. “We believe that driving sustainable economic growth over the long term relies, in part, on efforts to build stronger, healthier and more prosperous communities.”
This fund builds on BMO GAM’s long history of responsible investment, beginning with the launch of our first ethical fund in 1984. “Responsible investment is in BMO’s DNA,” says David Logan, Head of Distribution, BMO Global Asset Management. “The BMO SDG Engagement Global Equity Fund is truly representative of what investors are asking for today.”
This fund is available to institutional investors in Europe. To learn more about how to invest with impact as an individual, visit our impact investing page. And to learn more about how BMO GAM is innovating in responsible investing practices, visit our investment practices page.
