BMO GAM takes two awards in Investment Week’s Sustainable & ESG Investment Awards 2019

November 28, 2019 | Purpose, Sustainable finance

BMO’s Responsible Global Equity Fund (£600m AUM) has been recognised by the respected UK industry magazine Investment Week as the Best ESG Investment Fund for 2019, the second time it has won. The Fund, which was launched in October 1987, focuses on businesses that are proactively and effectively managing their own ESG risks and opportunities, as well as those having a positive impact on the world. It is underpinned by a philosophy to avoid companies with damaging or unsustainable business practices, invest in companies that make a positive contribution to society and the environment, and improve through our influence as an investor to encourage best practice management of ESG issues through engagement and voting.

In addition, BMO GAM’s 17-strong Responsible Investment (RI) team, which is co-headed by Alice Evans and Claudia Wearmouth, was recognised as Best ESG Team for the second year running. The team has taken a leadership approach in developing sustainable investment strategies since launching the first ethical pooled fund strategy in 1984. In addition to supporting portfolio managers with integrating ESG factors into their processes, last year they voted on more than 100,000 ESG related resolutions at more than 9,900 company meetings in 82 countries and regions worldwide, as part of their reo® (responsible engagement overlay) service.

Now in its twelfth year, the Investment Week’s Sustainable & ESG Investment awards offer an opportunity to showcase expertise and commitment to investment factors that take into account environmental, social and ethical criteria as well as good corporate behaviour.
